Job Description

We are looking for an Assistant Controller for a rapidly growing global furniture manufacturing company to assist in financial reporting, accounting and FP&A. You will be responsible for managing at least one direct-report accounting clerk and reporting directly to the CEO and Director of Operations. This role includes a clear pathway for promotion based on performance. We are looking for a team member to join our start-up-like, fast-paced and collaborative environment. The opportunity will allow you to drive robust finance and operational strategies that support business outcomes and steer the direction of the company.

We are currently hiring a reliable Assistant Controller in our Toronto office that will be responsible for all day-to-day accounting activities, financial reporting and financial planning and analysis work.


  • Managing and coordinating day-to-day accounting activities
  • Managing and coordinating the preparation of monthly reports, quarterly reforecasts, annual budgets, year-end audits, and other ad-hoc analysis to all users
  • Budgeting, forecasting and performing variance analysis of actuals vs budget
  • Implementing efficient accounting processes for automating cash receipts, POs, AP and inventory
  • Developing strong internal control systems
  • Assist the Controller/CFO in the preparation of financial statements in compliance with GAAP and/or IFRS
  • Reconcile accounts for the monthly and annual closing
  • Manage journal entries, invoices, cash receipts and intercompany transactions
  • Participate in calls with related parties and other subsidiaries for accounting transactions
  • Preparation of other ad hoc reports as necessary
  • Managing and analyzing FX, fixed assets, and landing cost allocation
  • Review and update Quick Books accounting system daily


  • Bachelor’s degree in in commerce, accounting, finance or relevant field is required
  • CPA designation is required
  • Big 4 experience is a plus
  • At least 4-7 years of accounting experience
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial processes (financial reporting, budgeting, journal entries, internal controls, accounting processes)
  • Experience with Quick Books is a plus
  • Understanding of data analysis and forecasting
  • Working knowledge of Excel is required
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • Strong desire to roll your sleeves up and get things done
  • Proven experience as assistant controller, senior accountant, or experienced associate (audit) is required
