Lead Programmer and Product Developer

Toronto Temporary

We're an early-stage, Toronto-based startup that's bringing a validated, user-tested mobile app concept to market by Sept. 2017.

As our Lead Programmer and Product Developer, you will:

—report directly to our CTO

—have an unparalleled opportunity to build a new product from the ground up

—be treated as a full member of our team who is expected to contribute and show leadership

—make an immediate impact at the earliest stages of our growth and contribute on everything from strategy to development to implementation

With direction from our CTO, you will be responsible for:

—contributing to the iterative development of a full beta release of our mobile app

—learning and/or improving your knowledge of and proficiency with all programming languages, frameworks, and software required for the beta development project

You’re our ideal applicant if you:

—are excited about the chance to work at an early-stage startup

—are smart, resourceful, and want to embrace a unique opportunity

—aren’t afraid to learn new skills and like to work hard, fast, and smart

—are a team player who prefers being self-driven over receiving lots of direction

—take ownership of assigned projects and find ways to contribute beyond what is asked

—express yourself honestly and are willing to admit mistakes and things you don’t know

—are patient, kind, and considerate

Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate knowledge of and proficiency with some or all components of this tech stack:

Front end:

—React Native

—ES6

—HTML

—CSS

—JSX

—Babel JS

—Redux

Back end:

—Ruby on Rails

—PostgreSQL

Deployment Infrastructure:

—Ansible/Chef

—Bash/Ruby scripting

—Ubuntu

—AWS

—Varnish

—Loadbalancer (most likely haproxy)

The successful applicant will be expected to learn any components of the tech stack as the CTO finds necessary to develop the beta. Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate their willingness and ability to learn new skills during previous co-op assignments or outside the classroom. Full stack experience strongly preferred.
